information for patients

Patient Information

Your First  Visit

Your first visit will include a comprehensive orthodontic examination and a discussion of treatment needs. There is no fee for this appointment. At this time, we will answer any questions you may have, such as:

  • Is treatment needed?
  • When is the best time to start?
  • How long will it take?
  • What type of treatment is needed?
  • Is Incognito or Invisalign Technology For Me?
  • Approximately what is the fee?

Diagnostic Records

If treatment is indicated, an appointment will be set up for obtaining diagnostic records which normally consist of two orthodontic x-rays, a series of photographs, and upper and lower impressions for the creation of orthodontic study models. This information is then used to create a patient-specific treatment plan.

Treatment Consultation

Before treatment is begun, a consultation visit is scheduled to discuss the doctors’ findings following their review of the records. At this time, specific aspects of the treatment plan will be presented. The treatment plan can be considered a step-by-step guide outlining every aspect of treatment. At the bottom of every treatment plan is a treatment time estimate, and an all-inclusive fee quote that covers all aspects of treatment including: placing the braces, monthly adjustment visits, emergency visits, lost brackets, removing the braces, one set of retainers, and post-treatment follow-up. We also use the treatment consultation appointment to create a no-interest payment schedule that works best for each individual. At this visit we will schedule all future appointments needed to begin treatment, and most importantly, answer any final questions that you may have regarding the proposed treatment. We schedule plenty of time for our consultation appointments to ensure our patient families leave with a great understanding of not only what we plan to do, but why we have chosen a particular treatment approach.

Scheduling

Once orthodontic treatment has begun, we will need to adjust your braces every 4 to 6 weeks. In order for treatment to progress efficiently, please try to make all appointments, or reschedule conflicting appointments for the earliest convenience. We will do our best to meet your scheduling needs. We understand the value of your time and we do our very best to stay on schedule.

If you have an emergency, please call our office immediately. In most cases we will be able to see you that day. If the emergency falls over a weekend, or a day that we are out of the office, please call the office number (940-381-1988) and you will hear a phone number to call in the event of an emergency. The doctor or assistant on call will be more than happy to meet you and relieve you of any orthodontic associated discomfort. There are no additional fees for emergency visits.

Your Comfort & Appearance

Our goal is to keep our patients happy, comfortable, and satisfied while providing the highest quality treatment possible.

In order to improve the orthodontic experience, we focus much attention on precise bracket placement to allow an even initial alignment of the teeth. Not only does the smile look better early on, but it prevents excessive wire bending later in treatment. We also use initial arch wires that are light force, super-elastic wires allowing a gentle introduction of orthodontic force to the teeth and supporting structures. In addition, we try to avoid using bands on molars whenever possible. By placing brackets on the molars, we no longer need separators between the back teeth to prepare room for bands. By avoiding separators, we avoid a great deal of patient discomfort early in treatment.

For patients concerned about the appearance of braces, we offer tooth colored brackets and clear aligners. Tooth colored brackets reduce the visibility of the brackets, while allowing for traditional orthodontic mechanics. Clear aligners such as Simpli5 and Red, White and Blue provide bracket free alignment for patients requiring minor esthetic improvements.
